Alex Aces are serious about their intentions of bringing top flight football back into Alexandra and are planning to field locals in their team.

Alex Aces took a big step towards achieving the goal of nurturing and finding local based players when they announced that their academy u19 team will be both scouting talent and training in Alex.

Aces’ youth tournament held this past weekend pitted the best youngsters against our existing academy in a highly successful one-day event. The results of the games did not matter, although that said the Alex youngsters displayed some outstanding talent and were the perfect hosts.

Teams from u12 up to our new Alex based u19’s played an event at 3 Square Grounds in a wonderful atmosphere. Locals poured into the ground and we were particularly impressed that the academy players parents supported their boys so well.

Thanks to SAFA who had their entire executive at the stadium and to the local media who attended. We also would like to extend our thanks to the group of local commentators who provided highly amusing non-stop commentary.

We would also like to thank our coaches who have worked hard preparing their teams ahead of the season.

All the teams received food packs courtesy of Aces and their sponsors LAKAMA.

Aces last weekend just completed their first ‘Coach the Coach’ clinic which was attended by 24 local coaches at the main stadium. On the same day trials for our u19 academy team commenced. The u19 team will play in the top Gauteng Academy Development League against the likes of Mamelodi Sundowns, Bidvest Wits, Tuks etc.

There will be a close link between the academy and the Aces 1st team, who have already started planning for next season.
