Motlhalosi 'Junior' Nare in U17 National squad

Print this page  | Email this article to a friend

CONGRATULATIONS to Junior Nare on his selection for the U17 National squad which will be participating in the Cosafa Cup in Mauritius from the 19th to the 29th of July.

There are 3 current and ex-Black Aces Academy players in the final 20:

  1.  Costi Christodoulou started in Corinthians and progresses through the ranks at Aces . Costi was part of the squad that travelled to Manchester City in 2012 and left the club last year after being offered a bursary at Hylton college. He is now part of the Maritzburg United MDC Squad.
  2. Bontle Molefe started at Aces in 2015 and was scouted by Kaizer Chiefs GK coach at a National camp and decided to leave for Chiefs earlier this year.
  3. Junior Nare is currently part of our U19 academy squad, Junior played for the ABC Motsepe League squad last season at the tender age of 16 and will be joining the senior squad again when he returns from Mauritius

Other players who were in the initial 32 but did not make the final squad:

  1.  Bryn Deeley, Is currently injured and was unable to attend the camp. Bryn was part of the squad which travelled to Mauritius for the previous tournament.
  2. James McFarlane, who left us for Kaizer chiefs late last year was in the squad at the last tournament (When he was still at Aces) but did not make the final 20 this time.

Aces also have 4 players who have come through our academy and are part of the U20 National team setup, Roberto Fragale and Reece Vetter, are 2 players who have left us to pursue their careers elsewhere. Bradley Cross who is also part of the U20 setup has joined Schalke in Germany last week. Keegan Mitchell who is currently with the U20 squad is part of our U19 academy squad and will be playing at this year’s Engen tournament. He was also part of our ABC Motsepe League team last season and will be joining them again after the Engen Tournament.

In total we have 9 players who have come through our ranks and are currently part of the national setup.

If you compare us with other top academy you will see that we compare very favourably with some and even better than others.

We also have players who have come through our academy and are now playing in the PSL, to name a few; Thabo Nodada (Cape Town City), Judas Moseamedi (Cape Town City) and Nana Akosah-Benpah (Cape Town City).

There is a misconception that players need to be at a big club at a young age to be successful, it’s not the profile of the 1st team that will ultimately define the success of the player. There are a lot of other factors that must also be considered.

Hoping to see more of our players grow and develop into our 1st team and beyond.
