The match started 30 minutes late due to a clash of kit colours with Aces having to play in their warm-up kit.
Notwithstanding the delay, Bogosi Morojele scored in the 5th minute to give the Gold City Giants a perfect start. In an effort to keep up the pressure, Kurt Pienaar was introduced in the 20th minute for Tebogo Mathopa – a move that virtually immediately paid dividends.
Dingaan Metsi doubled Aces lead in the 25th minute, his second for the season, as Aces took a firm grip on the game played in very hot conditions.
The second half started with Aces introducing their 2nd substitute as Terence Malaza replaced the goal scorer Bogosi Morojele.
As the match continued, the Gold City Giants continued to dominate all facets of play – that until the 69th minute.
Callies, who seemingly had nothing to lose, threw men forward and it paid off handsomely when they scored two goals in four minutes to level matters. 2-2.
Collen Zimba, the evergreen ex Tembisa Classic nippy striker, came on for Thomas Madimba in the 74th minute, in another move that would yield dividends.
Both teams sat back content to claim a point apiece, that until the 88th minute when Zimba popped up in the right position and nailed his first for his new club, and a winning third goal.
It was a great win that moved Aces up to 12th in the Gauteng ABC Motsepe League.
Aces next fixture will be at home against 13th placed Garankuwa United FC on Saturday 21 October.
