Aces decimate Valencia

Alexandra Black Aces had their biggest win of the season when they comprehensively beat Valencia 4-0 in Linksfield on Saturday afternoon.

While all the final day drama was centered around the league winners and relegation games, Alexandra Black Aces left it to the last game to come up with their biggest win of the season.

A 1st half goal from Themba Njwaga and three 2nd half goals from Theo Mbiyozo, Kurt Pienaar and Collin consolidated Aces 6th position on the log.

Valencia made their 1st substitution in the 5’ minute replacing their goalkeeper in a tactical switch which was strange as the KwaThema team only had a total of three subs on the bench.

The Gold City Giants dominated the opening half and camped in the Valencia half but created few clear cut chances although Mbiyozo did have the ball in the net in the 20’ minute but was adjudged off sides.

Aces did go ahead in the 37’ when the busy Mbiyozo found space on the big box and his pinpoint cross across goal was delightfully buried by the impressive Themba Njwaga, his 1st of the season.

Five minutes after the restart the combination of Pienaar/Mbiyozo again yielded a positive result when the pacey and skillful Kurt Pienaar, split the Valencia defence and found his mate Theo Mbiyozo whose first touch opened a 2-goal lead for AmaZayoni – and his 11th of the season.

In the 62’ Valencia made a very rare foray into Aces area and earned themselves a free kick just outside the penalty area but poor discipline from a Valencia player who kicked the ball at the referee resulted in a red card.

Kurt Pienaar, who has grown in leaps and bounds this season and has been the provider of a large chunk of Aces goals this campaign, finally bagged himself a goal after a delightful through-ball from workhorse Siyanda Mathenjwa.

With Valencia’s backs to the walls, Aces had the freedom to enjoy themselves and knocked the ball around at will to prize open their opponents defence. In the 85’ Collin Tefo, another impressive player, ran a full 25 meters a jinked past at least six defenders before scoring from a very acute angle to give Aces a 4-nil lead.

A great result from a team that has worked extremely hard this season.

In other ABC Motsepe games, both Orange Vaal Professionals and JDR Stars had good wins but ultimately fell one-point short of Gauteng league champions, Maccabi FC who also won 4-1 against Ama Bee.

Moroka Swallows and Mofolo BET Stars were confirmed as relegated and will now drop a division. For Swallows, it’s their third straight relegation in three seasons where they have dropped from the PSL down to the 4th division.
