Alexandra Black Aces fought back well to salvage a 1-1 draw against the table toppers at Balfour Park on Saturday afternoon

The match was billed a 'key' encounter as a win for Maccabi would of put one hand on the league title. The Balfour Park franchise came into the game with a 3-point cushion over the chasing Orange Vaal Professionals and JDR.

And it was Maccabi who opened their account virtually from kickoff and courtesy of some sloppy defending. 1-0.

Aces then found their rhythm and actually shaded exchanges as the 1st half came to an end.

In the 59th minute Siyanda Mathenjwa hit his 4th goal of the season with a sensational goal to equalise. He picked up posssession on the halfway line and sensing the keeper was off his line, blasted a rocket of a shot into goal.

Coach Lombi Mabusela then went and searched for victory and in quick succession substituted Kurt Pienaar for Themba Njwaga, Slindile Ntsele for Tebogo Mahopa and Tsietsi Mahowa for Gavin Abrahams.

Despite creating numerous chances it was Maccabi who hung on for a valuable poiint.

The draw moved them up to 59 points and with one tricky away game to Ama BEE next Saturday. A win gaurantees them a playoff berth but should they draw or loose and this seasons form team Orange Vaal Professionals beat Moroka Swallows – or draw, should JDR loose to Baberwa, their season could come crashing down.

In other results Mofolo BET Stars, grabbed a lifeline as they surprised M. Tigers with a 1-0 home victory and with two games left still have a mathematical chance of saving relegation.

Moroka Swallows lost their 15th of the season to JDR Stars. The once famous Dube Birds are technically relegated although will need results to go their way and beat the title chasing Orange Vaal Professionals away to stand a chance of remaining in the ABC Motsepe Gauteng league.

Aces last match will be against Valencia at the Greek Sporting Club on Saturday 1 April 2017.
