Honours even Vs Swallows

Alexandra Black Aces continued their pursuit on remaining unbeaten by extending their run to eleven in a 1-1 draw against Moroka Swallows today.

Both former PSL teams attracted a fair amount of media attention given their history and the sad story of Moroka Swallows who are trying to avoid a third consecutive relegation.

A sizeable crowd gathered at the Italian Club in Bedfordview primarily to support the once 'Beautiful Birds' who were perched 2nd last on the log - which results in automatic relegation.

And their passionate fans were soon biting their nails in this 'do or die' match as the Gold City Giants camped in AmaSwaiSwai's half in the opening stanza.

Theo Mbiyozo and Kurt Pienaar  both created scoring opportunities but found the Swallows keeper in sublime form.

Swallows, who were clearly nervous and seemed more intent on not conceding and relying on counter attacks, nearly shocked Aces when they hit the post via a freekick.

This rare forage into the Aces half seemed to give Swallows confidence and as they broke with their defensive play however their offensive play was well defended by Aces back four.

Swallows did have the ball in the back of the net via a strong header but the linesman ruled it offside, much to their fans dismay.

Two minutes later it was Aces bench who threw their hands in the air when Mbiyozo missed an open goal from a delightfull Kurt Pienaar cross.

But Mbiyozo soon redeemed himself when in the dying moments of the 1st half converted a penalty to send Aces into the halftime braek 1-nil up. It was Mbiyozo's tenth goal of the season and his 9th in the last 6 games!

The second half was helter skelter with both teams creating numerous chances in a very exciting half.

Swallows did equalise midway through the half which gave their supporters a little hope but despite the numerous half chances the match ended 1-1.
