A ten-man Aces held JDR Stars to a 1-1 draw and extended their unbeaten run to ten at the Greek Club this afternoon.

The match was played on a very wet pitch which made for a lottery with some of the passes. Despite the pitch, both teams played their hearts out with JDR Stars seeking to capitalise on their fellow table toppers Maccabi FC's 1-1 draw against African All Stars on Friday night.

Aces scored the opening goal rather fortuitously but credit to Rudolf Bester who played a delightful one-two with Mbiyozo and jinked his way past three defenders who all slipped in the wet conditions - and then finished with aplomb. 1-0 Aces.

JDR immediately threw men forward but were thwarted by a rock solid Aces defence who played fairly deep due to the uncontrollable bounce of the ball.

In the 52nd minute JDR Stars were rewarded for their mounting offensive play when Baggio equalised. 1-1.

Two minutes later the Gold City Giants were down to 10-men when Mokeretla was red carded for dangerous play. That resulted in coach Mabusela rearranging his players but despite JDR’s numerical advantage, Aces always looked dangerous on the break – especially down their right side.

Both teams hit the post in the last ten minutes and Rudolf Bester will rue his miss with an open goal beckoning. Aces floated in a free kick which was poorly defended and the ball played to Bester who was unfortunate as the ball half ended in a puddle which on a normal day would have been buried.

The match watched by Maccabi head coach and ex Aces mentor Kenny Ndlazi was also attended by Clifford Ngobeni who informs us that he resumed full training a week ago.

The result saw Aces maintain their impressive unbeaten run which has now extended to 10 matches while JDR Stars go back ontop of the log.

Aces next match will be against Moroka Swallows at the Italian Club next Saturday.
