Both teams desperately needed the full bag of points to still have an outside chance of winning the league and making the play-offs.
The Coal City Giants looked the better team and controlled most of the possession in the early exchanges. Aces build-up play was particularly impressive however some wayward long distance shooting in the final third made it easy for the Stars defence.
Aces best chance of the half came in the 40’ when Mathenjwa’s free kick, after a Abrahams foul, just sailed cm’s over the bar. Minutes later Esau Mtsweni then hit the upright with a great header.
Aces’ eventually cracked the Stars defence early in the 2nd half when Theo Mbiyozo’s delightful pass was converted by Mogaila. 1-0.
A few minutes later Mogaila became provider for Marco Afonso to tap in for Aces’ second. 2-0.
African All Stars threw caution to the wind and pushed players forward and this strategy paid dividends when they pulled one back from the penalty spot . 2-1.
Aces’ coach Lombi Mabusela closed up shop and brought on Njwaga for Afonso, Mazibuko for Mathenjwa and Bester for Mbiyozo as Aces cruised to their 8th win of the season.
Aces’ next assignment will be against Dondol Stars in Thswane next Sunday 5 November.
