The 1-all draw was Aces third in succession after having drawn 1-1 against M Tigers and 2-2 against Alex United. AmaZayoni went into the game determined to offset their 1st round 2-1 loss in their second match of the season at Sinaba Stadium (although technically their 1st match after their opening match against Garankuwa United was called off with the points awarded due to a kit issue with their opponents).
The Gold City Giants had to withdraw Clifford Ngobeni, who has been their inspirational player all season, but despite missing the midfield mastro, threw men forward in the early exchanges.
Aces wingers were particularly impressive and injected pace into the game while whipping in crosses and this resulted in Lerumo shoring up their defence in the 35' when Keshinro replaced Suntsha in central defence.
Siyanda Mathenjwa (pic), who looks a real talent for the future, scored his second of the season and Aces opener in the 40' via sublime freekick (1-0).
The teams went into halftime with the Aces technical team the much happier of the two teams - especially delighted at Aces' dominance.
Mathenjwa nearly put Aces 2-nil up in the 55' when his freekick hit the crossbar and Rudolf Bester just missed the rebound.
A few minutes later, Lerumo who were slowly making inroads into the midfield battle, equalised via Kizito.
Coach Lombi Mabusela brought on Gavin Abrahams for Bester in the 67' and soon after he brought on Sandile Mazibuko for the hard working Marco Afonso. In the 83' Aces made their 3rd substitution when Themba Njwaga replaced Kurt Pienaar.
Aces camped in the Lerumo half for the remainder of the match but just could not convert numerous chances.
Final Score: Aces 1-1 Lerumo
