Those who witnessed the Gold City Giants in action against Baberwa were impressed by the team’s fighting spirit and style of play. Veteran Esau Mtsweni scored late in the game to win Aces all three points away from home. The win is a clear indication of Sakala’s ability to motivate and get the best out of his players.
Taking over with only a few hours to go before the match, the Zambian born mentor selected an inspired and strong team that did not disappoint. Sakala will look to build on his strong start as he prepares his boys for another crucial clash against Maccabi on Saturday at the Greek Sporting Club. The visiting team spent a number of weeks at the top of the ABC Motsepe League standings. Maccabi has since dropped to second after 4 defeats from 13 games.
Macaabi have this week just replaced their coach, David Horwitz for an ex-Aces man in Kenny Ndlazi.
The two sides are only seperated by 9 points with Aces enjoying a better goal difference. With Sakala at the helm, Aces stand a good chance of reducing the point difference to six at home. The Gold City Giants have done well at their home ground and hard to beat in-front of their home supporters. “Cellular” as Sakala is commonly known in football circles has been part of the Aces family for a number of years.
He has held positions such as Technical Director, Interim Coach and Scout. His in-depth knowledge of the club has made his return to the team as easy as possible for everyone and it shows on the pitch. The players are free to express themselves, look lively and communicate better on the field of play.
