Alexandra Black Aces wishes to confirm the departure of Coach Steve Barker who ihas been replaced by Jacob Sakala.

Steve Barker reached an amicable agreement to leave the team after meeting with the club’s co-chairmen Mario and George Morfou earlier this week. His good work since taking over at the Gold City Giants did not go unnoticed as a number of teams have shown interest in his services.

The experienced mentor was offered a great opportunity that he couldn’t refuse and Alex Black Aces would like to wish him all the best in his future endeavors. Barker took over at the club with only a few weeks to go before the start of the season. Despite his short spell with the team, he managed to get the team to gel and had a good working relationship with his players and technical team. His professionalism was hugely appreciated by all at the team and he will surely be missed.

I would like to thank the club’s co-chairmen Mario and George Morfou for the great opportunity they gave me at this beautiful club. My job was more than just coaching the first team as I was involved in the youth structures as well. I trust I made a positive imput, albeit in a short stay, with the Aces 1st team and their impressive youth structures. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and it is with a tinge of sadness that I say my goodbyes to the players, coaching staff and most importantly the fans.

I would like to wish the team all the best. I believe that they have a good project in place and soon the team will return to where they belong at the top”, said Barker.

A formal announcement on where Barker is headed is expected to be made soon by his new club.

The wily Jacob Sakala has been appointed as the new Head Coach of the team. Black Aces is without doubt in safe hands as the Zambian born coach has a good relationship with the team and has indepth knowledge of the brand after his previous coaching roles at the club.

'Cellular' Sakala knows the culture of the team and will definitely continue the good work that has been done so far. His man-management skills are second to none and he is known to be one of the best motivators and funniest coaches in African football.

Sakala, whose mandate is to get Alex Black Aces promoted, will commence his new role on Thursday 1 December.

His first assignment will be a derby against Baberwa FC on Friday 2 December at Eldorada Park - kickoff 1pm.
