Aces gear up for Top of Table clash

Alex Aces' character will surely be tested against Orange Vaal Professionals at the Greek Sports Club on Saturday, 05 November.

The high flying Vaal side is yet to lose a match in the 2016/17 campaign and is currently second on the log. The free-scoring side is has scored more goals than any other team in the Gauteng ABC Motsepe League. An open match is expected as both teams are determined to maintain their good run of form. Aces haven’t lost a match in their last 4 games while Orange Vaal Professionals registered a big win last weekend.

A win will put the Gold City Giants on level points with them, making this encounter a true top-of-table clash. Our players have made a remarkable turnaround after a slow start to the season. This match couldn’t have come at a better time for the Gold City Giants, who have found form and confidence.

Aces is finally gelling with Captain Esau Mtsweni leading by example both on and off the field. The veteran has been a source of inspiration for the younger players at the club such as Alessandro Venditti who has been on top form, although is out injured.

Orange Vaal Professionals look like the better team on paper with their impressive 16 goals being the highest scored by any team so far. They scored three last week while we held their arch-rivals Vaal Professionals to a draw. Last week’s match gave us the perfect practice for the upcoming encounter.

However Aces expect a totally different match as without a doubt Orange Vaal Professionals will throw everything in an attempt to secure the 3-points. But with the likes of Thabang Rooi and Tsietsi Mahoa at the back, they will need to be on top of their game if they are to break down our defence. The players will need to show character as well but judging by the way Coach Steve Barker has managed to get the best from his players, you can expect Alex Black Aces to come out on top.

Aces have looked good at home where their pitch at the Greek Sporting Club is in pristine condition and the players have confidence in the bounce of the ball. Last Saturdays match against Vaal Professionals was played on a diobolical pitch at the George Thabe Stadium where passing the ball was a lottery with the uneven bounce.

Match kickoff is at 15h00.
